Who We Are

WildTech Ecology is a small, independent specialist ecological consultancy, established in 2026 and led by Jim Longley, a Chartered Ecologist (CEcol MCIEEM) with over 20 years’ professional experience spanning ecological consultancy, conservation land management, environmental planning and applied research.

WildTech Ecology provides specialist ecological survey, monitoring and data interpretation services. All technical work and professional judgement are led and delivered directly by Jim, with additional support for administration and operations.

Jim’s experience includes extensive use of drone-based ecological survey, including thermal drone surveys for bats and other mammals and the collection of spatial imagery for ecological mapping and monitoring. He is certified and insured in commercial UAV operations.

A further key area of expertise is ecoacoustic survey and analysis, including multi-species monitoring and assessment using passive acoustic monitoring (PAM). Jim has specialist expertise in species identification from acoustic data, supported by extensive consultancy experience applying acoustic evidence across development, land management and conservation projects.

This experience includes PAM survey design, acoustic data processing and quality assurance, and the human-in-the-loop validation of automated outputs, ensuring that acoustic datasets are robust, transparent and defensible.

Additional expertise spans habitat and botanical survey (FISC Level 4), UKHab and NVC classification, ornithology, River Habitat Survey and MoRPh-accredited assessment, protected species surveys (Natural England survey licences – Barn Owl, Level 1 bats and great crested newt), and GIS-based ecological analysis.

Jim’s background spans senior consultancy roles and work within National Park and Local Authority conservation teams, with long-term involvement in habitat restoration, hydrological enhancement and species-focused conservation. This land-management experience underpins WildTech Ecology’s approach to ecological survey, monitoring and data interpretation.

WildTech Ecology operates independently, providing specialist services either as standalone commissions or in support of wider project teams.
